 The German Government is committed to achieving the Millennium Development Goals and has therefore defined poverty alleviation as the guiding objective of its development policy. In order to facilitate this goal, Germany has closely coordinated its activities not only with its partner governments, but also with other development partners.

Development Partners provide USD 453 million in General Budget Support

Development Partners have committed 453 million dollars (USD) to support the Government’s budget (2011-12). This year’s commitment marks a reduction in General Budget Support compared to the previous year (USD 534 million in 2010/11). Germany, which provides 14 million USD in General Budget Support, highlighted the need to restore the fiscal balance and to further strengthening Public Financial Management by impementing the recommendation of the Controllor Auditor General.

Trade Show "Africa Infrastructure"

The Southern African - German Chamber of Commerce and Industry have partnered-up with Deutsche Messe AG and SA Show Services to host a new trade show - AFRICA INFRASTRUCTURE. AFRICA INFRASTRUCTURE will take place at the Expo Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa from the 8th to the 11th of May 2012. The broad topics of the show include: energy, water and wastewater, the construction industry, transport and logistics, as well as telecommunications.

Weltwaerts-Volunteers visiting the Embassy

German volunteers participating in the "Weltwaerts" program of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) visited the German Embassy Daressalam on April 14th 2011. During a one year assignment period the junior volunteers assist Tanzanian partner organizations such as NGOs, schools or orphanages in pursuing their development efforts.

Small Scale Projects

The fund for small scale projects of the German Embassy is designed to assist projects at grassroots level where no funds from Tanzanian authorities, cooperations, church organizations, etc. are available.

Generally individuals, informal groups as well as registered community-based, non-governmental or faith-based organisations, etc. can apply for support. The maximum amount available per project is 10,000 Euro. This amount is supposed to cover the costs of materials for the project, thus excluding labour, survey costs or pure humanitarian aid, etc.

Engine production and test

Germany belongs up there with the best achievers when it comes to Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). According to the “European attractiveness survey” published today by the consultancy firm Ernst & Young, France is now only just ahead of Germany with 562 FDI projects, the United Kingdom occupying first place with 728.

Reporting on Regional Integration

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) has rolled out a one-week training course in Arusha, Tanzania, for journalists based in the EAC Partner States. The programme aims at enhancing journalists' understanding of the concept of regional integration in general and of the history, organs, institutions and policies of the EAC in particular thus improving the quality of reporting on EAC matters within the region.

GERMANY GRANTS 8.5 MILLION EURO TO SUPPORT SOCIAL MARKETING OF CONDOMS AND CONTRACEPTIVES

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Federal Republic of Germany signed a bilateral grant agreement concerning Financial Cooperation to co-finance social marketing of Condoms and Contraceptives. The agreement has been signed by the German Ambassador Dr. Guido Herz, and the Permanent Secretary to the Treasury, Mr. Ramadhani M. Khijjah at the Ministry of Finance of the United Republic of Tanzania in Daressalam.
