Candidates wishing to qualify as car mechanics, electricians and chassis builders for motor vehicles will receive training at the Technical Vocational Training Centre (TVTC). Although courses in these disciplines are already being run at various locations on the premises, the TVTC offers a far better educational environment. Additionally, through the provision of extensive equipment, the TVTC offers the vitally important practical training component which is missing in the existing programmes.
Lieutenant Colonel Nalbach, Head of the Federal Defence Forces Advisory Group in Tanzania, identified Sergeant Heinrich-Peter Strick, a member of the Training Centre ”Technik Landsysteme” in Aachen, Germany, with whom he had previously worked, as the best person to implement the complex training operation, and brought him over to Dar es Salaam.
Sergeant Strick had already been in Tanzania twice before, in an advisory capacity. During this time, serving as Project Manager, he was a passionate driving force in the construction and equipping of the TVTC. Now, in less than four and a half weeks, he has managed to train 16 TPDF troops in highly specialized maintenance services, which go far beyond the basic operation tasks of the facility.
In his remarks at the closing ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Nalbach emphasized his acknowledgement and gratitude for the extraordinary contribution of Sergeant Strick to this project. An exhibition highlighting the components of the programme was also held. Certificates were distributed to the successful trainees, as well as prizes for the four best participants. The dignified ceremony marked the successful conclusion of the training, and paid tribute to all the participants.
The Chancellor of the German embassy in Dar es Salaam, undaunted by the continuous rain, also handed over a new water closet and shower cabin for the TVTC. This final construction phase and the solemn handover marked the formal conclusion of the project
The Training Centre for Automotive Professions is one of numerous aid projects through which the German Government provides education and equipment to defence forces in foreign countries.
